RE: Next Stop??? Need Suggestions Please

ditto to doing southern Utah and the canyon country. Torrey has a nice rv park "Thousand Lakes RV Park" and sits well for driving highway 12 in a toad. Capitol Reef Nat'l park has a nice campground. It's a scenic drive to take 95 south from Hanksville UT down to Blanding. If you take the 276 loop, it crosses the Colorado on a ferry. I BELIEVE it's big enough for you, but check that before you go. In route to Blanding is Natural Bridges park, and if they're full, there's a primitive "overflow" site a couple miles up the highway.. the rangers will tell you where.

RE: Please help with National Parks planning decision...

both (options) have equal value if you've never been to the areas. my personal preference is Utah/Grand Canyon over Glacier.. while both are truly beautiful, there's more of it in Utah/AZ. But it will be HOT down there in August, even though it's high country. it would be too hot for me to want to be in a tent, that's for sure. but I'm am old lady and maybe the heat just bothers me more than others. lol if you want it cooler, go north.

RE: Best Route from Rocksprings, Wyo to Island Park Idaho

you'll be better off to take 191 up to Alpine and then 26 up to 20 and up to Island Park that way. Teton Pass has some pretty stiff grades on it.

RE: Heading to Yellowstone for the first time

RE: TAKE NOTE!! Jackson/Snake River KOA- Wyoming

as stated in one of the posts above, the pricey charges for little or nothing is not unique to KOA in the Teton valley area. I know that with kids, you need to find a place with a pool, etc. And the rv park owners know it, too.

RE: Flying J overnight stays

there is no list that I know of. we get a new locations pamphlet from them every trip if you look at the one you're interested in, you can see how many trucks can park there and whether there's a restaurant and how many it will seat. this tells you how big the truck stop is... some of them are pretty small. a big size doesn't guarantee a parking lot for rvs, but is a fair indication. some of them only have back-in's available. the one at cheyenne doesn't really need a parking lot for rvs... there's a big parking lot across the street and, as stated, a rest stop on the other side of the interstate... plenty of parking space available.

RE: US 191 Between I 10 and I 40

the last time we drove that, a few years ago, there was a length limit. I forget what it was, but we were not legal to do it with our 34 ft bounder and pulling a jimmy. we managed to do it without getting a ticket or getting into road trouble, but there are some hairpin turns on it that you need the whole road to get around. we did it very early in the a.m. so there wasn't any traffic. I'm glad we did it because the overlooks are great and the morenci mine is pretty impressive. but there is a sign just south of Alpine that tells you about the length limit.

RE: FLYING J Cheyenne, WY

yes, we have spent the night there. actually, we parked across the street in a big parking lot behind McDonald's. no problems.

RE: Making Jam?

I made jams for years.... apple, tomato, peach, and plum. I used pint or half pint jars, washed in dishwasher, then given a boiling water bath. I poured the hot jam mix into the hot jars, sealed them and let them cool. when you hear the "ping" or "thunk" sound of the lid sealing, they're sealed. I never bothered with boiling water bath for the filled jars. Just get the certo pectin stuff and follow the directions for each kind of fruit. with tomato jam, you need to add lemon juice or thin sliced lemon... to make the tomato jam more acidic. use a little red food coloring if you like it really pretty.

RE: Taco recipe (Authentic)

the meat/gravy was probably carne guisada... just a mexican style meat stew.. pork or beef or mixture of both... green chilies, onions, garlic, stir fry and then add a little water and stew until very tender, then add a flour roux to thicken the broth and simmer that to meld the flavors. oh man, I've made myself hungry!!

RE: I/80 to Cody, WY

you could go north on 385 to chadron and then west on 20 to I-25 and on into Casper. Chadron State Park is very nice, with elec hookups, water and dump station. Ft. Robinson State Park is not as pretty in my opinion, but lots of history there. or you could go north on 385 to 26 west at Bridgeport and follow the oregon trail through old ft. laramie. Guernsey WY has some very good wagon wheel ruts, easy to get to and view. Guernsey State Park is nearby, or up the road from there is Glendo State Park. North of Shoshoni WY are some state parks. the one below the dam looks like the prettiest.

RE: Best route from Custer, SD to Medora, ND

just take 385 north and get 85 north out of Spearfish. as stated, get fuel at Belle Fourche... it's a long ways to the next place. go on up and take a look at the north section of T. Roosevelt National Park. Very pretty up there.

RE: San Antonio to Mount Rushmore-what to see between

do take in Palo Duro and also Caprock Canyons Park just southeast of Palo Duro. An alternate route north is up through Amarillo and then 385 up the far east side of CO, into Julesburg CO and then over to Sidney NE and on up 385. Cabela's at Sidney has a full service rv park on site, very nice, but call ahead and make a reservation..they're busy. Chadron State Park near the northern border of NE is a very nice state park with swimming pool, fishing pond, horses, scenery and elec hookups. Things to see/do around Chadron.. A fur trading post museum in town, Ft. Robinson State Park, 20 miles west.. big army post that trained calvary horses.. lots of history, and Hudson Meng archaeological site, 20 miles north of Crawford. A bison kill site with lots of ancient bison bones and archaic tools, etc. In Hot Springs SD, there is a Mammoth bone site.

RE: Canned pumpkin---need non-dessert ideas!

make brownies.. Hungry Girl Brownies Ingredients: 2 cups canned pure pumpkin 1 box Betty Crocker Fudge Brownies Mix (the 18.3-oz. Family Size box) 2 tbsp. Better ‘n Peanut Butter, room temperature Directions: Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Combine pumpkin with the brownie mix in a large bowl; stir until smooth (do not add anything else). Spray a small baking pan (8" X 8" work best - no larger!) with nonstick cooking spray and pour in the mixture. Spoon 2 tbsp. of Better ‘n Peanut Butter (room temperature) on top and use a knife to swirl peanut butter around. Cook for approximately 35 minutes. The batter will remain very thick and fudgy, and it should look undercooked. Remove from oven. Cover with aluminum foil and let cool in fridge for a couple of hours. Cut into 36 squares and serve. Serving Size: 1 piece (approx. 1.3 oz.) Calories: 63 Fat: 1g Sodium: 56mg Carbs: 13.5g
